Cultural Collaboration Between Odessa and Vienna

The Mayor of Odessa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, and the Director of the Department of Culture, Ivan Liptuga, held a meeting during a working visit with the first president of the Vienna Parliament, Ernst Woller, and the head of the European and International Relations Office of Vienna, Alena Sirka-Bred.

Odessa and Vienna have maintained fruitful partnerships for many years, actively developing cultural ties.

During the meeting, Mr. Woller discussed Vienna's experience in preserving architecture and managing World Heritage sites such as the "Historic Centre of Vienna."

Woller emphasized the importance of preserving history for future generations in every city.

Austria has navigated complex historical periods but has managed to retain its architectural heritage and culture, sometimes adapting the context of certain historical figures while always honoring past achievements.

"Vienna is rightfully considered a world capital of culture and art, while also winning top awards in smart city innovation competitions," said Mr. Woller.

According to Hennadiy Trukhanov, Odessa is a Ukrainian city of culture, literature, and music. This year, the city will host the tenth edition of the festival "Golden Violins of Odessa."

"It is wonderful that our jubilee festival will take place in the capital of Austria. The experience of Vienna in balancing heritage preservation with urban development is extremely beneficial for Odessa, which is currently developing practices for managing World Heritage sites in wartime," emphasized Trukhanov.
