Commemoration of Victims of Repression in Odesa

On November 1st, Poland observes All Saints' Day, during which cemeteries are illuminated by thousands of candles.

A ceremony took place in Odesa as well, featuring the lighting of candles and laying of flowers on the 6th km of the Ovidiopol road.

This event was held to honor the memory of the victims of mass political repression of the 1930s, which resulted in the loss of thousands of lives, including Poles.

Attendees included Odesa's Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov, the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Odesa, Jacek Gocłowski, as well as representatives from the diaspora and Polish community organizations.

The Mayor informed the newly appointed consul about the history of this tragic site and the initiatives undertaken before the full-scale invasion to honor the memory of victims and document the crimes of the Soviet regime.

During their dialogue, it was noted that Poland is aware of this site and respects the attitude of Odesa residents toward memory.

Mr. Gocłowski stated that the consulate, the diaspora, and Poland would provide support for the project's implementation after Ukraine's victory.
