Traveling Across Ukraine: New Opportunities for Citizens
In just three weeks since the launch of the «3000 km Across Ukraine» program, thousands of Ukrainians have utilized it, purchasing 40,000 train tickets as part of the initiative. This has allowed for the transportation of passengers equivalent to about 740 economy class or 1,111 sleeper cars.
Among the more than 20 available routes, the most popular include:
- Fastiv — Konotop
- Odesa — Zaporizhia
- Kyiv / Zhmerynka — Shostka
- Zaporizhia — Lviv
- Sumy — Rakhiv
The «3000 km Across Ukraine» program is part of the state initiative «Winter Support». The first trains under this program were launched on December 5. Initially, the program focuses on routes to and from frontline communities.
As noted by the Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine, Oleksii Kuleba, the support is planned to be expanded nationwide.
“During off-peak periods, Ukrzaliznytsia will be able to offer about 250,000 seats per month. This creates conditions for affordable travel for Ukrainians and additionally reduces the pressure on peak transport” - emphasized the Minister.
Free rides within the 3,000 km range are available during non-peak times and are primarily focused on routes leading to frontline communities. Tickets can be purchased via the Ukrzaliznytsia app.
The program aims to support residents of communities located near the front line and allows for a more even distribution of passenger flow and more efficient use of existing railway resources. The routes for the pilot launch were selected based on an analysis of train occupancy with a special focus on the needs of the affected regions. The implementation of the program is carried out without attracting additional budget funds.
