New Coin "Year of the Horse" from the National Bank of Ukraine
The National Bank of Ukraine has issued a new commemorative coin titled "Year of the Horse" with a denomination of 5 hryvnias. This coin will be available for purchase from November 4, as announced by the bank's press service on November 3.
According to Chinese astrology, the year 2026 will be under the sign of the Fire Horse.
"Our coin 'Fire Horse' is dedicated to this symbol. The horse is the seventh sign of the eastern calendar, representing activity, vitality, independence, and the determination to strive for freedom," the announcement states.
Design of the Coin
The reverse of the coin features a stylized symbol of the eastern calendar for 2026 – a horse against a horseshoe background, symbolizing luck. Below this image are three dots, representing the continuation of struggle.
"The horse's mane conveys the dynamics of movement, a metaphor for inner strength and the quest for freedom," explained the NBU.
On the obverse, the twelve symbols of the eastern calendar are arranged around the edge, with a stylized clock in the center showing the sign of the Chinese zodiac for 2026.
This design was created by artist Marina Kuts and sculptor Volodymyr Atamanchuk.
