Cybersecurity Alert: Fake Emails from the Tax Service
Fraudsters are widely distributing counterfeit emails allegedly from the State Tax Service of Ukraine. This was reported on the STS website, citing acting head Lesia Karnaukh.
“The email's subject is regarding a “financial audit concerning the legalization of funds» for a specific organization. I emphasize! The STS has no connection to this mailing, so we ask everyone to be cautious,” stated Karnaukh.
The emails contain malicious software. Opening the attached file triggers harmful programs that create opportunities for unauthorized access to the user's personal computer. There is a real danger of virus infections on personal computers.
Additionally, these messages are sent from email accounts that have no affiliation with the STS.
The agency advises: do not open attachments in suspicious emails and adhere to personal cyber hygiene rules.
On May 28, 2025, the State Tax Service of Ukraine reported mass distribution of fake emails allegedly sent in its name. The attachments in these emails contained malware that activates upon opening a PDF file. After that, software is launched that provides remote access to the computer for attackers.
