Celebrating the Day of Ukrainian Language: New Traditions

October 27 marks the Day of the Ukrainian Language in Ukraine, a significant cultural event.

This observance was established on November 6, 1997, with the support of President Leonid Kuchma, who signed a decree to commemorate it.

Initially, the day was celebrated on November 9, in line with the Julian calendar. However, after Ukraine adopted a new church calendar in 2023, the date was shifted to October 27, as all fixed holiday dates moved forward by 13 days.

Every year, various events are held across Ukraine to promote the Ukrainian language. One of the highlights is the traditional National Unity Dictation. This year, the text will be read by the renowned actress Natalia Sumska, while the author is writer Yevheniya Kuznetsova.

Last year, over half a million people participated in the dictation through Suspilne platforms, with around 10,000 submissions received from more than 30 countries worldwide.
