Cargo Ship Sinks in the Black Sea
In the Black Sea, approximately 140 kilometers east of Varna, the cargo ship EILEEN (flagged under Cameroon) has sunk. This was reported by Maritime.bg.
Yesterday, around 1 PM, the vessel sent a distress signal indicating water ingress in the hull.
Following this, the captain ordered the crew, consisting of ten Ukrainian sailors, to abandon the ship. All were able to evacuate using two lifeboats. The crew was rescued by the offshore vessel MURAT ILHAN, which was closest to the site of the incident.
The cargo ship EILEEN was built in 1993 and is currently operated by a company based in Odesa.
The last inspection revealed five violations and took place in Izmail.
Due to these violations, the ship was detained in Poti (Georgia) in July, in Astakos (Greece) in June, and previously in Tuzla (Turkey) in March.
