Celebrating Territorial Defense Day in Ukraine
On October 5, 2025, Ukraine observes Territorial Defense Day. This holiday was established by the decree of the President of Ukraine “On Territorial Defense Day of Ukraine” on September 30, 2020, recognizing the importance of territorial defense in ensuring the country's security, and is celebrated annually on the first Sunday of October.

Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal congratulated the Territorial Defense warriors on their professional holiday and emphasized that they demonstrated the finest qualities of the Ukrainian spirit from the very first days of the full-scale war.
«Today we honor the brave Ukrainians who took up arms at the most decisive moment in our history to defend Ukraine. From the outset of the full-scale war, TDO fighters have shown courage, dedication, and resilience», - stated Shmyhal.
He stressed that today Ukraine expresses gratitude to TDO fighters for their crucial contribution to the defense of our people and common home.
«Eternal memory to the TDO warriors who gave their lives for the freedom of Ukraine and Ukrainians. Glory to everyone defending Ukraine!», - highlighted Shmyhal.

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk on the occasion of Territorial Defense Day emphasized that TDO symbolizes the readiness of Ukrainians to defend their land at all times and everywhere.
«Territorial defense is a symbol of the readiness of Ukrainians to protect their land at any time. From the first days of the full-scale invasion by Russia, thousands of men and women within the Territorial Defense Forces stood up to defend Ukrainian cities and villages, halting the enemy where they attempted to break through, safeguarding critical infrastructure, and protecting people from sabotage and attacks», - noted Stefanchuk.
«Thank you to all who serve in the TDO ranks. Your determination and readiness to protect your homeland is the strength that makes Ukraine unbreakable. We also honor the memory of the fallen soldiers. Today and every day, during the national moment of silence, Ukraine bows its head in memory of everyone who gave their lives for freedom», - emphasized Stefanchuk.
