Barrier-Free Initiatives in Odessa: New Developments

Odessa is implementing new barrier-free routes as part of the national initiative. On August 20, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a regulation that establishes clear guidelines for planning and creating barrier-free transport and pedestrian routes.

This document streamlines the process and opens doors for expanding the initiative across the country. Currently, 15 local communities are participating in the pilot project of the Ministry of Development called "Movement Without Barriers." The routes are being developed by local authorities in collaboration with architects, facility managers, and NGOs.

The Ministry of Development coordinates the process. Odessa consistently ranks among the leaders in implementing these measures.

During an online meeting chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister for Community Development, Territories, and Infrastructure Oleksiy Kubela, the progress of the project in Odessa was discussed, particularly the updating of barrier-free route signage and the approval of design and technical documentation for its first phase.

“In collaboration with the ministry and relevant experts, the city is steadily moving towards implementing modern barrier-free solutions that make Odessa more accessible for everyone,” noted Acting Deputy Mayor of Odessa Serhiy Kotsyuba.
