Conservation of the European Roller in Ukraine

The Lower Dniester National Nature Park is home to the endangered European Roller (Coracias garrulus) – a stunning bird with vibrant blue feathers. Unfortunately, this species is on the brink of extinction due to deforestation, urban development along their nesting sites, the use of pesticides, and landscape alterations, which leave these rare birds without homes and food.

This information was shared on the NNP's official page.

However, despite all the challenges, it is still possible to spot European Rollers in the national park in Odesa region. They can be seen flying over the Karahol Bay.
“Perhaps you will be lucky enough to see one – a true symbol of hope and strength in these challenging times,” the NNP page states.

The European Roller is protected by the Red Book of Ukraine, the Bern and Bonn Conventions, as well as EU directives.
