Unusual Phenomenon on the Black Sea Coast
On the coast of the Black Sea in the National Nature Park «Tuzlovski Lymany», a significant number of swimming crabs have been brought ashore by marine waves. Among them are many females carrying eggs.
This was reported by ecologist Ivan Rusev on his Facebook page.
According to the scientist, this event occurred due to the upwelling of cold waters from the depths of the sea, a phenomenon linked to temperature changes and winds that elevate colder water layers to the surface. This mass of water «washed» the crabs onto the shore.
Park staff and concerned local residents are trying to save as many live crabs as possible by returning them to the water.
These crabs are known for being excellent swimmers. Their fourth pair of legs is adapted for aquatic life and resembles paddles. Typically, they inhabit depths of hundreds or even thousands of meters.
