Rescue of Children in Odesa Region: Mother Left Them Alone for a Day
In the Odesa region, law enforcement and rescuers rescued four children who had been left home alone for almost a day. Their mother abandoned them, having previously been held accountable for failing to fulfill her parental duties.
According to information from the National Police press service, the incident occurred on July 9 at 5:00 PM in Kodima. During a check of living conditions for children in families facing difficult circumstances, a family of a 28-year-old woman raising four sons aged from 11 months to 9 years was visited. The apartment door was locked, and the children informed through the window that their mother had been gone since the previous evening.
Rescue workers from the State Emergency Service were called to the scene to open the door, and an ambulance, accompanied by social workers and juvenile police officers, took the children to a medical facility for examination. Their health is not in danger.
“The mother has already been held accountable three times for failing to fulfill her parental duties in 2021, 2023, and 2024. The court imposed fines on her, which she paid. Regarding the incident yesterday, the mother returned home when the boys were already with us. We drew up a report for failing to fulfill her parental duties. The maximum penalty is a fine of 1700 hryvnias. We have also approached the child protection service to consider the issue of removing the boys and possibly depriving the mother of parental rights,” said Lyudmila Bubernko, deputy head of the police activity department No. 1 of the Podil District Police Department.
