New Energy Solutions for Odesa

The municipality of Odesa, in collaboration with the Government of Japan, UNDP, and with support from international partners from Norway and Sweden, is implementing a project to construct energy generation facilities based on gas engine technology, totaling approximately 30 MW.

This initiative is part of the decentralization of energy generation aimed at improving the energy resilience and security of the Odesa community.

The first cogeneration unit is already connected and is currently powering one of the city's boiler houses.

«This unit can produce 3.3 MW per hour. About half of that is needed for the boiler's operation. In the future, we plan to redirect the surplus to support other critical infrastructure facilities,» said the Mayor of Odesa.

Currently, work is underway to connect three more cogeneration units that have already arrived in the city.
In total, 9 units with a total capacity of 30 MW will be manufactured for Odesa under the UNDP order.

Additionally, 7 cogeneration units from the German Agency GIZ have arrived in Odesa. All will be installed at district boiler houses, two of which are already in the process of being connected. Components for connecting the remaining five are expected to arrive soon.
