Revitalization of the Odesa Building: A New Restoration Phase
Odesa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov surveyed the restoration efforts at the building located at Prince Volodymyr the Great Street, 134 — the site of one of the most devastating tragedies in 2024.
Last year, anti-accident and stabilization works were carried out, preserving the integrity of the apartments in the right part of the end entrance and renovating shared spaces. The internal heating system was also completely modernized, allowing residents of the intact apartments to return home. Residents of the destroyed apartments in the left part of the end entrance received housing certificates and participated in the eRecovery program.
Based on engineering and geodetic surveys, a reconstruction project was developed. The protruding remnants of the left part of the entrance have been dismantled, and the exterior wall will be repaired according to current construction standards. Plans include the installation of monolithic buttresses and strengthening the foundation with a monolithic slab, ensuring the building's reliability even in challenging conditions.
“In the left part, intact rooms from the destroyed apartments will be combined for use as maneuverable housing. We plan to complete their renovation with the support of charitable organizations,” noted Mayor Gennady Trukhanov.
According to the mayor's advisor on NGO coordination Veronica Etnarovich, external and interior doors have already been purchased, and charitable organizations have provided builders with foam blocks for internal renovation work.
