Empowering Women: The Ukrainian Women's Conference
The Ukrainian Women's Conference titled «Empowering Women: The Ukrainian Women's Conference» took place in Odessa alongside the Ukrainian Women's Congress, celebrating 140 years of the women's movement.
The mayor of Odessa, Gennadiy Trukhanov, addressed the audience, highlighting the significant contributions of women in wartime, politics, and society. He acknowledged the vital role women play in preserving the city's cultural heritage and thanked them for their dedication to Odessa.
Sabine Frazer Gunes, representative of UN Women Ukraine, spoke about the UN's support for the women's movement and the commitment to fostering collaboration:
"We recognize that women in Ukraine are empowered in their actions. Last year, women established half of all new businesses in Ukraine. They are stepping into crucial roles as men are serving on the front lines, with approximately 60,000 women currently serving in the security and defense forces."
The event gathered historians, activists, military personnel, representatives of international organizations, economists, and gender experts.
Key topics of the conference included the historical context of the women's movement in Ukraine and Odessa, the challenges and achievements of women in contemporary society, as well as leadership and rebuilding Ukraine after the war.
