Renovation Updates on the Odessa Infectious Disease Hospital

The Odessa city clinical infectious disease hospital continues its extensive renovation work.

The current progress of the renovation and reconstruction of the hospital was inspected by Odessa's mayor, Gennadiy Trukhanov.

At present, restoration efforts are focused on two historical buildings of the hospital — the Valikhovskiy and administrative wings. These renovations are part of the Ukraine Recovery Program, implemented by the government in partnership with the European Investment Bank.

Additionally, renovation work in the children’s department, built in 1974, is nearing completion, funded by the Odessa city budget. Comfortable semi-boxed rooms with a specialized reverse ventilation system will be installed here to prevent the spread of hospital-acquired infections.

Special attention is given to ensuring accessibility during the renovations. Entrances are equipped with convenient ramps according to DBN requirements. For the first time, elevators have been installed in the building to facilitate patient and staff movement.

“Soon, the infectious hospital will have a completely modernized department that meets all contemporary standards. This will enhance Odessa's capacity to combat infectious diseases. We continue to improve conditions in the city's medical facilities,” — stated Odessa mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov.

In 2025, reconstruction of the bacteriological laboratory building at the infectious hospital is also planned.

The large-scale phased reconstruction of the city clinical infectious disease hospital began in 2015 with the construction of a boxed unit for patients with droplet infections. Subsequently, a modern reception area, three new boxed departments, a state-of-the-art PCR laboratory, oxygen stations, and cryocylinders were established in the hospital.

In 2024, with support from UNICEF, an artesian well was put into operation, and a pump room was established to provide autonomous water supply for the facility. Solar panels were installed on three hospital buildings.
