Exploring the Career of a Forensic Expert for Youth

In the Berezivka, Odessa, and Podil districts, law enforcement officers held events where youth had the opportunity to dive into the profession of a forensic expert. This was a chance to learn about crime investigation methods, understand the importance of abiding by the law, and possibly choose a future profession.

During the meetings held in educational institutions and police departments, the youth learned that forensic experts must master crime scene examination techniques, be able to use technical devices, document and classify physical evidence, analyze information, and create databases, as the quality of their work directly affects crime resolution. Specialists shared their personal experiences, providing numerous examples of how even seemingly insignificant evidence they discovered helped identify criminals.

The young participants were informed about the algorithm of police work at the crime scene, how evidence is collected, and were introduced to the basics of fingerprinting. Many eager participants learned to find fingerprints of a hypothetical criminal at a simulated crime scene and to take fingerprints from individuals.

Additionally, police officers discussed the latest technology they use in their work: electrostatic detection mats for finding shoe prints, rapid tests for checking substances for narcotic content, drones for assessing damaged sites, mobile DNA laboratories, and more.
