Ukrainian Karate Athletes Shine at World Championship
From October 9 to 13, the world championship for young athletes took place in Lido di Jesolo, Italy. This tournament, held near Venice, attracted over 2000 young competitors from 117 countries, setting a new record.
The Ukrainian team consisted of 38 athletes representing 17 clubs from 9 different regions, including 8 from Odessa.
Fifteen-year-old karateka Maxim Vechkanov from Odessa (Royal Team, coaches – Volodymyr Zaretsky and Oleksiy Konovalov) won the gold medal in the cadet category up to 52 kg.
This victory at the world championship adds to the silver medal he earned at the European championship in February this year.
This marks the fourth medal (second gold and first in cadet competitions) for our region's athletes in the history of youth world championships.
