Online Interaction with Ukrainian Antarctic Researchers

Students from Lyceum No. 56 in Odesa participated in an online meeting with Ukrainian scientists working at the Antarctic station «Academician Vernadsky». This event allowed students to explore the world of science and learn firsthand about life on the frozen continent. According to the Odesa 56 Lyceum,
during the event, students connected via Zoom with participants of the 30th Ukrainian Antarctic expedition. The session featured biologist Yelyzaveta Safonova, a native of Odesa, and her colleague Taras Peretyatko.
The researchers shared insights about the unique flora and fauna of the Argentine Islands, discussed their scientific research in Antarctica, and emphasized the significance of climate change issues for the region.
Students were particularly fascinated by the discussion about the daily life of polar researchers.
They learned about how scientists live at the station, the challenges they face daily, and the discoveries made during their expeditions.
The meeting concluded with an engaging «question-and-answer» session where students received thoughtful responses to their inquiries and felt pride for Ukrainian scientists representing the country in one of the planet's most remote corners.
