Odessa Fencer Clinches Bronze at World Championship

Odessa fencer Alina Komashchuk secured a bronze medal at the World Fencing Championship taking place in Tbilisi (Georgia).

The 32-year-old athlete from the Odessa Regional School of Higher Sports Mastery «Olympiets» began her journey to the medals from the 1/32 finals, defeating German fencer Elisabeth Hette (15:7). In the 1/16 finals, she was defeated by Chinese competitor Fu Yin (15:6), but then in the 1/8 finals, she triumphed over the reigning world champion from Japan, Misaki Emura (15:12). In the quarter-finals, Alina won against French fencer Sara Baltzer (15:7), but in the semi-finals, she lost to Polish representative Zuzanna Czeslar (12:15).

This medal marks Alina's first individual award at the world championships.

Her coach is Alexander Vasyutin.
