Reviving Ukrainian Identity in Odesa

Today in the City Garden, we honored the Ukrainian essence of Odesa by reflecting on the legacy of Yuriy Lipa and other influential figures in shaping our city's Ukrainian presence.

Among them are Ivan Lipa, Andriy Nikovskyi, Mykhailo Komarov, and Margarita Komarova-Sydorenko, as well as Serhiy Shelukhyn.

Thank you to everyone who joined us! You made this day special.

This initiative brings back Ukrainian meanings to Odesa's public space through art, word, and history. We pay tribute to those who embody the deep idea: Odesa is a Ukrainian city that should resonate with dignity, memory, and cultural strength.

Today at 20:00, tune in for a special episode of the podcast “Kultymatik,” dedicated to the 125th anniversary of Yuriy Lipa.

Our guest is historian and publicist Ihor Stambol.

We discuss the influence of the Lipa family on Odesa's Ukrainian identity, the role of “Prosvita,” and culture as a form of resistance.
