Establishing a New Judicial System: Prioritizing Children's Rights
On November 28, an important event took place in Kyiv, marking a significant step towards a judicial system where children's rights are paramount.
The seminar focused on the launch of a project aimed at establishing specialization for judges dealing with family and child cases, uniting top experts and international partners to initiate changes that could transform the lives of thousands of children.
Why is this more than just a reform?
Imagine a court where decisions are made with children's needs in mind, where a judge not only knows the law but also understands child psychology and listens to their voices.
This will become a reality through judges' specialization, supported by the Cassation Civil Court, the Interagency Coordination Council on Juvenile Issues, UNICEF, and the All-Ukrainian Public Center "Volunteer".
Three steps towards change:
- Pilot courts will implement specialization — judges will undergo training and work in multidisciplinary teams alongside psychologists, lawyers, and child protection agencies.
- Training for professionals on safe family environments and children's rights.
- A child-friendly space — courts will feature special rooms designed to minimize stress for the youngest participants.
This pilot project is just the beginning. Its success will lay the groundwork for legislative changes and the development of a judicial system that places children's interests at its core.
This is not just about reforms. It's about compassion, humanity, and creating a world where every child feels safe.
