Military Partnerships with Universities: A New Initiative

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine plans to establish partnerships between military units and universities. This new initiative will be part of the course "Foundations of National Education".

The program will include not only theoretical lessons but also practical exercises, fostering close interaction between military and educational institutions.

This was announced by the Minister of Education, Oksen Lisovyi, during a broadcast on Radio Hartia.

He noted that this will help young people deepen their knowledge about national security and develop their worldview.

According to current legislation, universities are required to implement basic military training starting from September 1, which differs from traditional army training.

"When students are mobilized, they will receive comprehensive training directly before joining military units", – the minister added.

It is planned that military units permanently stationed in the regions where universities are located will participate in this initiative, with potential interregional cooperation.

"Not every brigade has the necessary preparation level to collaborate with universities. This also raises issues of ideology, value formation, and shared goals", – stated Oksen Lisovyi.

Additionally, utilizing resources from military units, such as training grounds, weapons, and experienced instructors, is a key aspect of this collaboration.

According to Lisovyi, this partnership will help establish traditions where military units take care of universities, enhancing connections and youth involvement.

"The military honors their fallen, the wounded, and those who have suffered during the war. This also involves students in processes of remembrance and memorialization", – he emphasized.

The idea of military mentorship over universities arose from the tradition of some universities supporting brigades that include their graduates or students.
